Settling In
Today Sharon and I decided to hike out past the east sands along the coast to get a good morning view down on St Andrews. I brought my camera so that I could post a picture of it, but I forgot that I had taken the CF card out of it to load pictures to our computer yesterday so, alas, I don't have a photo to share. It is really too bad because on the way back to the town a perfect rainbow appeared, forming an arch over the entire town. That makes two rainbows in three days! ... ...I suppose the environment here is conducive for that sort of thing, since when it isn't raining it is usually threatening to do so at any moment. We didn't actually get more than a misting here today and the weather was pretty warm, though there was a brisk breeze. After cooking a large breakfast late in the morning, I made my way to the university library to check out some books while Sharon stayed back and read. We swapped about midday and Sharon went out with our new friend Elizabeth and I read. I'm still reading Sophie's World, but should be finished soon. I also started a commentary on 1 & 2 Samuel by Walter Brueggemann which I am finding very helpful as I work out some of the questions that have come up in my Bible reading. I got several more books out from the library to read this week, including a few on aesthetics, a collection of Gerard Manley Hopkins' poems, The Meaning of Jesus by N.T. Wright and Marcus Borg, The Cost of Discipleship by Bonhoeffer, and the last Harry Potter book (for fun...I know, it's pathetic that I still haven't read it :-) For dinner we went out with some new friends for some good Scottish food and watched a football match (or 'soccer' for us American folks). All in all, we had a good day reading, relaxing, experiencing a taste of Scottish culture, and making new friends.
Oh wow! I'm so jealous, everything looks and sounds so incredible. You are both missed very much back here, but what an awesome opportunity! Great job with the blogging, it's almost like I'm there. Too cool!

Thanks for keeping up with our adventures, Natalie. I hope things are going well with school and NHS stuff.
