Finally, We Have Arrived!
Sharon and I flew into Edinburgh yesterday, touching down at 5:45pm and arriving in St Andrews around 7:30. Our taxi driver, Eric, was extremely knowledgeable about St Andrews, so we peppered him with questions for the entire drive here. He gave us a little tour of the town before dropping us off at our flat on St Gregory's lane. The setting could not be more spectacular! ... [The rest of this entry appears in comments. Hi Joel and Sharon, It was great to hear from you via phone and now the blog! What beautiful pictures from Paris...can't wait to hear all the stories behind each one! The flat looks wonderful....and the view....WOW!
Thanks for posting all of this...so we can feel alittle closer, even though we are so far away in miles. You are in our thoughts and prayers! Love, Mom and Dad
It was so good to hear from you and to know that you are in Scotland. This is such a tremendous opportunity for you. We will pray that you have a great time of learning and just enjoying the country. We know that as you learn, you will be able to better teach your students when you come home. You will be in our thoughts and prayers. We love you.

Our front lawn is literally within a stone's throw from the North Sea and we have views of the ancient castle and cathedral ruins from our bedroom and living room windows. The flat itself is spacious and full of character. The carpets have to be among the ugliest I've seen, but they lend the space a certain bucolic charm. The building must be several hundred years old judging from the exterior, which shows the battlescars of years fighting the salty winds that whip off the ocean and whistle across the clay tiled roof. It is warm and inviting on the inside, though, and Sharon and I spent last night and most of today getting unpacked and situated. We were both pleased to find that the apartment is equipped with high speed internet. It has been great to reconnect with friends and family via e-mail and facebook and to begin loading pictures from our adventures in France the last two weeks. We also made a journey today to Tesco's, the local grocery store, to do some hunting and gathering. Even considering the horrendous exchange rate (the dollar is pathetic against the pound!) we were able to get some good deals and stock our fridge. Sharon is already making friends. She is out to tea with a girl studying here named Elizabeth, who one of her friends from Cedarville knows. I've been inside most of the day, doing various chores and, generally, escaping the rain outside. I did venture out to get take some pictures of our flat and the views withing a few paces of our front door. I will be sure to post these on the blog soon.
Needless to say, Sharon and I are both brimming with anticipation for the coming weeks and are anxious to share the experience. Check out our pictures from the last few weeks (follow the link on this page) and feel free to leave comments. We'd love to hear from you!
